Getting Found Locally: Google Visibility for Swiss SMEs

“Plumbing emergency Winterthur”, “physiotherapy near me”, “fiduciary Zug”: anyone working regionally wins customers through exactly these kinds of searches. The good news: regional visibility is usually far quicker to achieve than national visibility, because the competition is smaller. Three levers make the difference.

Lever 1: Your Google Business Profile

The box with the map, opening hours and reviews that appears in regional searches is often more important than the website itself, and it is free.

The minimum: claim the profile (google.com/business), fill in every field, categories, opening hours, services, photos of you and your work (no stock images). The differentiator: being current. A profile with up-to-date photos and replies to reviews beats a competitor’s neglected profile.

Lever 2: Your website speaks regionally

Google has to understand where you work and what you offer there. In concrete terms: the location and catchment area appear in the text (not just in the legal notice), “plumbing emergency service in Winterthur and the surrounding area” instead of “your partner for building services”. Every important service has its own page that answers the regional search query. And the company details (name, address, phone) match exactly everywhere: website, profile, directories.

What we advise against: creating a nearly identical page for every village in the area (“plumbing Uster”, “plumbing Volketswil”…). Google sees through those walls of text, and so do your visitors.

Lever 3: Reviews, the digital village talk

Reviews influence the order in the map box and the customer’s decision. The reputable approach: ask satisfied customers actively but personally for a review, right after a job well done, with a link. Respond to criticism calmly and with solutions in mind; future customers read the reply too. Buying reviews: never. It gets found out and damages the very trust that is the whole point.

The self-test

In a private window (otherwise Google skews the results to your habits), search for your most important service plus location. Do you appear in the map box? On the first page? If not, the causes almost always lie with the three levers above, or deeper in the website, see Website not being found.

When you do not need us for this

You can maintain the business profile and collect reviews yourself, this guide is enough for that, and it would be dishonest to sell it to you as a service. You need us when the website itself is the problem: too slow, wrongly structured, without answers to the regional search queries. That is exactly what we check in the SEO analysis, and the price calculator gives you the range.
